What is a Platinum Course Director?

Reaching Platinum status is a big deal for a PADI Course Director. It takes lots of work, dedication and love for the profession of a scuba diver.  Here at Rich Coast Diving we are proud to say we have the only Platinum Course Director in Costa Rica on our team.  Now you are asking what is the difference between a Course Director & Platinum Course Director?

A Platinum Course Director puts in many hours of teaching, besides training PADI dive masters, there is of course the IDC courses where a CD trains new instructors.  Divemasters and instructors are called PADI Pro’s.

As PADI pro’s they can climb the ladder and go for MSDT (master scuba diver trainer) by doing at least 5 PADI specialties,  they can think about wreck diving, navigation or any specialty that they are interested in.  So these specialties are considered higher professional-level continuing education16999234_782555001910028_6911762661325311401_n

So here is what it takes to become a PADI Platinum Course Director:  issue a minimum of 100 professional-level certifications in a year, at least 30 of which were at the Open Water or IDC Staff Instructor level, and an overall 70 percent or higher professional-level continuing education ratio.

Of course there are more levels: One can become a Gold Course Director as well.  Here a Course Director issued a minimum of 50 and up to 99 professional-level certifications in a year, at least 20 of which were at the Open Water or IDC Staff Instructor level, and an overall 60 percent or higher professional-level continuing education ratio.
A Silver Course Directors issues a minimum of 20 and up to 49 professional-level certifications in a year, at least 10 of which were at the Open Water or IDC Staff Instructor level, and an overall 50 percent or higher professional-level continuing education ratio.

So now you know how active your Course Director has been during the year once you pick a spot to do your IDC.
